Chelsea return to top after 2-0 win over Arsenal

LONDON - First-half goals from Didier Drogba earned Chelsea a 2-0 win over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, securing them a return to the top of the Premier League two points ahead of Manchester United. The big Ivory Coast striker was left unmarked at the far post in the eighth minute and simply poked home beleaguered captain John Terry's header from a Florent Malouda corner.

Big guns get comfortable Euro 2010 draw

WARSAW - European champions Spain were handed an easy-looking path to the Euro 2012 finals in Poland and Ukraine in Sunday's qualifying draw, although coach Vicente Del Bosque said afterwards he was taking nothing for granted. Spain, who won Euro 2008 with a series of superb performances culminating in their victory over Germany in the final, are ranked number one in the world and were grouped with Czech Republic, Scotland, Lithuania and Liechtenstein.

Fan dies after Stoke stadium incident

LONDON - A soccer fan died on Sunday after suffering a head injury and a heart attack in an incident during a Premier League match at Stoke City, police said. The 30-year-old man collapsed inside the Britannia Stadium on Saturday just after the half-time interval in the game between Stoke and Blackburn Rovers.

Two-try Bastareaud helps France to 18-9 win

EDINBURGH - France continued their domination of Scotland on Sunday as two tries for centre Mathieu Bastareaud and two penalties and a conversion by Morgan Parra gave them an 18-9 win in their Six Nations opener. Jimenez beats Westwood in play-off for Dubai title

Rooney on target again as Man United go top

LONDON - Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was on target again to help the hosts crush bottom club Portsmouth 5-0 and return to the top of the Premier League on Saturday. The England international pounced just before halftime followed by two own goals and strikes by Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov to take United to 56 points, one ahead of Chelsea who entertain third-placed Arsenal on Sunday.

Amla glad his double century has India on back foot

NAGPUR, India - Hashim Amla was thrilled that his double century had put South Africa in a strong position in the first test against India on Sunday. "I think scoring a double hundred on any soil is a momentous occasion," the number three batsman told reporters on Sunday after scoring an unbeaten 253 -- his first double century.

Ten-man Liverpool beat Everton in feisty derby

LONDON - Liverpool overcame the early sending-off of defender Sotiros Kyrgiakos to beat city rivals Everton 1-0 in a fiercely-contested Premier League Merseyside derby at Anfield on Saturday. Kyrgiakos was red-carded for a challenge on Marouane Fellaini after 34 minutes but Liverpool won the game with a Dirk Kuyt header early in the second half.

Stricker leads rain-hit Northern Trust Open

PACIFIC PALISADES, California - Steve Stricker moved five shots clear at the rain-hit Northern Trust Open on Saturday before third round play was suspended due to darkness at Riviera Country Club. Stricker was four-under par through 14 holes before play was suspended. On a combined 14-under, Stricker leads Luke Donald, JB Holmes and Andres Romero by five shots.
